The club's grounds are at Birchville Park, just off Emerald Hill Drive in Birchville, Upper Hutt. Driving north on SH2 from Upper Hutt, turn left into Topaz Street, then left again round the roundabout into Emerald Hill Drive. At the bottom of this page are a map and aerial photo. The grounds are leased from the Upper Hutt City Council.
ARENA AND EQUIPMENT USE
For access to the club house and grounds please contact any Committee member for the combination to the padlock on the gear shed, in which are the keys to the main gate and shed. The secretary is able to advise you if there are any other bookings at the same time. Normally this is not a problem, but the arena will not be available if there is a group lesson or rally at that time.
When using the arena or equipment please unsure that:
1: You park your vehicle on the gravel car park - not on the grassed areas
2: Remove manure and hay from the yards and car park area when leaving
3: Safety approved helmets must be worn at all times when mounted
4: While you are riding on the arena the gate must be closed at all times
5: Riding is not permitted on any grassed area outside the grounds
6: The grounds and equipment are for use by financial members only. The exception to this
rule is when a clinic has been booked which is open to non-members.
7: Clear any manure from the arena that your horse may have deposited
8: Stack equipment tidily after use
9: Report any problems, observations or suggestions to a Committee member
10: All dogs must be on a lead when riders are using the facilities
11. You tie horses on the gravel car park, not the grassed areas
12: Make sure the gate and the shed are securely locked before leaving.
NB. The neighbours sheep may be lawnmowing on the grounds. If this is the case please leave them alone (they should just move into a corner of the grounds). Please ensure they are not troubled by dogs.
USE OF THE ARENA FOR INSTRUCTION
You can use the arena for private lessons. In this case it is permissable for your instructor (assuming they are not a member) to ride your horse, at their own risk, so long as this is simply to demonstrate - not a whole lesson schooling your horse!
You can also organise a group lesson or clinic with a visiting instructor. This can be:
1: For a specific group of members. Just book this with Paula or another Committee
member
2: Open to all members. It may then be eligible for a club subsidy to cover some of the instructor's fees. Contact a Committee member for details.
3: Open to non-members as well as members. In this case there will be a grounds fee
payable by non-members. Contact a Committee member (preferably well in
advance) to book the arena.
